Polymer Chemistry and Physics

Jilin University is one of the first universities to set up the discipline of polymer founded by academician Tang Auchin, biochemist Professor Tao Weisun, and polymer chemist Professor Qian Baogong. In 1956, the first group of undergraduates majoring in polymer graduated, and the discipline has been authorized to award master and doctoral degrees. In 2002, Polymer Chemistry and Physics has become a national key discipline and set up a post-doctoral center. In 2007, it was approved as a national key discipline by the Ministry of Education. The discipline relies on two important research institutions including “State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structure and Materials” and “National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Synthesis Technology of High Performance Polymers” as teaching and scientific research bases, providing a high-level platform for the emergence of innovative research results and the training of outstanding talents.

The orientation of Polymer Chemistry and Physics is based on social needs. According to the characteristics of the intercross and strong application of polymer specialty, strengthening the intercross of multiple disciplines and the combination of production, teaching and research is a train of thought for the characteristic construction of the discipline. In terms of interdisciplinary, it aimed to integrate with materials, biology and other disciplines. In terms of supramolecular science, molecular biology, plastic electronics, and other emerging disciplines and new high-tech new materials, it has paid full attention to self-advantages, strengthened innovative ideas, and carried out high-level and original research based on the construction of discipline platform combining production, learning and research, and take meeting the national economic and social needs as the development direction Creative scientific research. The main research contents are as follows:

(1) Molecular Design and Function of Supramolecular Structure and Materials

It is mainly about the development of supramolecular assembly methodology, molecular design of building blocks, construction of polymer micro-nano ordered microstructure, self-assembly technology and methods of supramolecular and biopolymer, molecular design and optoelectronic function of conjugated organic polymers, etc. A research platform for the structure and properties of supramolecular materials was established.

(2) Study on Preparation and Application Technology of High Performance Polymer

Mainly carry out the design, synthesis and application technology research of high performance polymers, the main research directions include: on the basis of the relationship between molecular structure and properties of high performance polymers, through molecular design research and development of new varieties of high performance polymers with higher performance; Through molecular design and composite technology, we can develop new high-performance resin matrix composites and functional composites with optical, electromagnetic and other properties.

(3) Methodology of Polymer Synthesis and Design and Construction of Polymer Functional Materials Relationship between Structure and Property

It mainly develops polymer chemistry polymerization methodology and polymer polymerization combinatorial methodology; A research platform for controllable synthesis of complex structural and functional polymer materials was founded. The relationship between structure and performance of polymer functional materials is constructed through the design of polymer materials with a specific structure and special function.

The discipline of Polymer Chemistry and Physics has formed a strong faculty with reasonable structure, strong cohesion and high level, which is characterized by the assembly of biological macromolecules, the assembly and function of nano-and micro-ordered structures of polymers, the molecular design, synthesis and processing of special engineering plastics, and the design of supramolecular structures and functional materials. The team has been funded by the National Fund Committee Innovation Research Group Project and the “Yangtze River Scholars” Innovation Team of the Ministry of Education.

Polymer chemistry and physics have become an interdisciplinary subject, merging with materials, biology, and other disciplines, and showing many new growth points in emerging disciplines such as supramolecular science, molecular biology, plastic electronics, and new high-tech new materials. The discipline gives full play to its own advantages, runs its professional characteristics, strengthens its innovative ideas, takes the combination of production, learning, and research as the basis of discipline platform construction, takes meeting the national economic and social needs as the development direction, and strives to build this specialty into an innovative and high-quality professional talent training base to meet the social needs.
